Dear All, 1- The first case of PPR recorded officially in Egypt was in May in 2012 and there was no vaccination for PPR in 2012. We neededsome measure of disease prevalence and distribution in order to evaluate our control measures progress in the perspective to "eradicate" the disease. 2- We could not depend on the reporting system (low reporting rates) to estimate prevalence, so in 2012 we used serology to estimate the sero-prevalence of PPR as our base-line indicator and to deal with the situation. 3- Because there was no vaccination at that time we were confident that this sero-surveillance in 2012 was only detecting antibodies in naturally infected animalsand the percentage was 29%. 4- A policy of ring vaccination around outbreaks started in May 2013. 5- In 2013, taking care to avoid collecting samples from ring vaccinated localities; the sero-prevalence rate was 24%. 6-The number of vaccinated sheep and goats were - From May – November 2013; 38,875animals - From Jan 28th - Feb 2nd 2014; 1,450 animals 8- Mass vaccination policy still not applied.
