School Milk List is a service of FAO’s Trade and Markets Division
Dear List Members,
Well, my message of Friday certainly got some members’ blood moving … and also resulted in a number of friends from the past (10-20 years) rising to the surface to let me know they were still alive and kicking. Therefore, like a military general, I must conclude that the ends justified the means.
Over the coming couple of weeks, I’ll explore the issues raised in the replies I’ve received - I will be on holiday on Thursday and Friday, so I won’t be able to deal with everything this week.
One member commented:
You should actually be very pleased with the active participation rate in the School Milk list.
I now teach Marketing Communications as well as Consumer Behaviour …. many on-line communities average only 1% participation rate, some up to 9% . The rest of us are called 'Lurkers'. We actively read and follow issues, but can't always contribute useful content.
While I know that access to media sources has increased many fold since we started the school-milk-list in 1998; however, I can’t help but think back to how it used to be. Therefore, for the time that I remain the moderator, perhaps another 3 years of so, I’ll continue to plug away at participation … not least, because it does yield some results. For example, as a result of my message and we have experienced a rise requests from new members to join the List.
Therefore, I would encourage everyone to consider how they can make the List stronger – if you can’t/don’t want to send in information or comments, at least you can forward details of the List to contacts and encourage them to join. All they have to do is send a message saying “subscribe” to [log in to unmask]
Just a few thoughts to stir the blood and keep things vital for the commencement of the week.
Greetings to all,
Michael

Subject: FAO School Milk List - 311 members and counting (up or down?)
School Milk List is a service of FAO’s Trade and Markets Division
Dear List Members,
A member has written saying:
I put out a lot of info for colleagues in the dairy industry let me know if you want on my distribution list or if you have any questions
We would be very happy to receive any addresses that members wish to send us. At the moment, there are 311 addresses on the List. As you will all have seen, this is composed of almost 300 sleepers and around 20 or so active members. Obviously, we would like members to be more active – otherwise, there is little justification for having the List; however, as a first step, even having more readers would perhaps also be useful.
Therefore, I would like to ask everyone to give this issue some thought and, if possible, let us have the addresses of contacts who you feel would be interested in receiving the List’s information. For anyone who finds that they do not wish to stay on the List, it’s easy to leave: either by following the instructions sent out at registration or simply sending us an e-mail.
Looking forward to hear from you.
Have a good weekend.
Michael
