Dear Subscriber, We have the pleasure to send you a new issue of the FAO Rice Market Monitor. The format has been revisited and efforts have been made to provide more information on basmati rice markets, a need identified in the readership survey we launched in February. As many of you participated, we are also happy to share the results with you: Overall, we received 231 responses: 1. They came prevailingly from people residing in Europe or in the Far East. 2. Traders were the major occupational group of the respondents. 3. Respondents came to know about the FAO Rice Market Monitor mostly through web searches or from colleagues. 4. The majority found the publication very useful (71.2%) or somewhat useful (28.4%) 5. The highest rated sections (as very good or good) of the RMM were the "Round Up" (89.4%), "Production" (87.7%), and "International prices" (83.7%); the sections most rated as poor or very poor were "Domestic Prices" (9.4%) and "Domestic Utilization" (5.5%) 6. The regions most requested for increased coverage were Europe, South America and Africa. 7. The length of the RMM was found adequate by 85% of the respondents 8. The majority (71%) found the four issues of the RMM adequate 9. Of those 29% of respondents that found the current frequency of the RMM inadequate, the vast majority (96.2%) would like more frequent releases. 10. Of those 29% of respondents that found the current frequency of the RMM inadequate, the majority (50.9%) wanted 12 issues per year, another 39.6% wanted 6 issues per year 11. A majority of respondents (55.7%) declared to be willing to contribute information 12. The type of expertise and topics listed for contributions were very wide 13. Contact details were provided by 113 respondents 14. 68% of respondents declared to regularly share the RMM with others 15. Users sharing the publication with 1-10 people accounted for 85 % of respondents. Another 15% declared to share it with more than 10 people 16. The majority (80%) shared the RMM by e-mail 17. Out of the various comments, the most interesting refers to the request for more information on Basmati rice (6.5%) While we will try to do our utmost to address the needs of the RMM readership, we take this opportunity to thank warmly all those that took the time to respond.
