Dear GBEP Partners and Observers,
As you know, over the past years FAO pilot tested the GBEP sustainability indicators for bioenergy in Colombia and Indonesia, with generous support from the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Natural Resource, and Nuclear Safety of Germany.
I am pleased to share with you the links to the two reports related to Colombia and Indonesia. The testing provided these two countries with an understanding of how to establish the means of a long-term, periodic monitoring of their domestic bioenergy sector based on the GBEP indicators. In addition, it offered a series of lessons learnt about how to apply the indicators as a tool for sustainable development and how to enhance their practicality.

Hard copies of the two reports and a CD will be distributed during the GBEP meetings which will take place in Rome in November, when the main conclusions and lessons learnt emerging from the pilot-testing of the indicators will be presented and discussed.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Governments of Colombia and Indonesia for their active engagement and cooperation in this project, and the Government of Germany for its generous support, without which these important activities would not have been possible.
I look forward to meeting you at the forthcoming GBEP meetings in Rome in November.
My kindest regards,
Michela,
