Malaysia celebrates first World School Milk Day
On 24 September 2014, Malaysia joined more than 30 other countries in the World School Milk Day (WSMD) celebration in a simultaneous live telecast from various states, organised by the Malaysian Ministry of Education under the 1Malaysia Milk Programme (Program Susu 1Malaysia, PS1M).
In this inaugural celebration, the WSMD 2014 was celebrated in Malaysia concurrently with a live telecast crossover with Deputy Minister of Education II, Ministry of Education, YB P. Kamalanathan P. Panchanathan at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kapar Indah in Klang, Selangor, with three other venues across the country.

As one of the accredited suppliers appointed by the Ministry of Education, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (Dutch Lady Malaysia) joined the Kelantan State Education Department in celebrating WSMD at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Ghafar on the same day.
The celebration saw 1.2 million school children nationwide and more than 1,012 students of SK Long Ghafar drinking milk concurrently to commemorate this launch. The momentous occasion was recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records in having the Most Number of School Children in Malaysia Drinking Milk Together on World School Milk Day 2014.

Under the theme Drink.Move.Be Strong, the fun-filled celebration in Kelantan highlighted the importance of drinking one glass of milk a day and getting at least one hour of exercise daily. This is in line with the Southeast Asian Nutrition Surveys (SEANUTS), which found that nearly 50% of Malaysian children studied do not achieve the Malaysian Recommended Nutrition Intake of Calcium and Vitamin D, which can be found in milk.

In Klang, children participated in various activities such as quizzes, mini bowling sessions and colouring contests. There were also booths set up by government departments such as the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), Food Safety and Quality Department, Young Doctors’ Club, Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia, as well as suppliers for the PS1M, including Dutch Lady Malaysia.

The PS1M is a free milk programme launched by the Ministry of Education to provide free milk to primary school aged children from low-income families in rural areas. As one of the accredited suppliers appointed by Ministry of Education, Dutch Lady Malaysia supplies milk to school children in Kelantan and Terengganu.
