Dear Ryoko, "Is it still appropriate to use the OSU’s composition of sugars as an official reference material?" If you do not have any other references - I would say yes, as long as you document where you have your data from. However, it is my impression that there are several - if not to say quite a few - scientific articles on sorbitol in fruits. Among the newer ones Maja Mikulic-Petkovsek, Valentina Schmitzer, Ana Slatnar, Franci Stampar and Robert Veberic Composition of Sugars, Organic Acids, and Total Phenolics in 25 Wild or Cultivated Berry Species Journal of Food Science, Volume 77, Issue 10, pages C1064–C1070, October 2012 DOI: 10.1111/j.1750-3841.2012.02896 (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1750-3841.2012.02896.x/abstrac t;jsessionid=154E4A5C88A67FCC0A6E3C0A9328E9A1.f01t04?deniedAccessCustomisedM essage=&userIsAuthenticated=false) Therefore, I recommend that you make a literature search to get values from several sources to get an impression of the variability in data, before you chose the values for the Japanese food composition tables. Several years ago, our experts used “Composition of sugars” published by Oregon State University (OSU) as a reference to estimate sorbitol in fruits. However, OSU’s website of the composition data ( http://food.oregonstate.edu/sugar/com1.html) is no longer available. My questions are: Is it still appropriate to use the OSU’s composition of sugars as an official reference material? Does anyone know new website or related publication available? Your help would be greatly appreciated. ************************************* Ryoko KAWAI (Ms.) Director, Office for Resources, Policy Division Science and Technology Policy Bureau Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT), JAPAN Post address: 3-2-2, Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 100-8959, JAPAN E-mail: [log in to unmask] ************************************* ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the InFoods-Food-Comp-L list, click the following link: https://listserv.fao.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=InFoods-Food-Comp-L&A=1 ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the InFoods-Food-Comp-L list, click the following link: https://listserv.fao.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=InFoods-Food-Comp-L&A=1
