Dear Robert,

You may also want to take a look at

Carol J. Pierce Colfer:

Human Health and Forests: A Global Overview of Issues, Practice, and Policy available as a Google book, see https://books.google.dk/books?isbn=1849771626.

Especially chapter 4 (page 63 and beyond), “The nutritional role of forest plant foods for rural communities” may find your interest.

Have you made a Google Scholar search on “forest plant foods nutrient composition Congo” (without quotes)?

For the caterpillars, make a Google Scholar search on “nutrient composition caterpillars” or “nutrient composition caterpillars Congo” (again without quotes). You will get quite a few references to papers with nutrient composition of caterpillars, and quite a few of them are online.

All the best,

Anders

Dear Anders,

Thanks for the quick response.

I am interested in nutrient composition of forest plant foods (fruits/leaves) picked from plants and or timber producing species of the Congo Basin forest. Also, data on nutrient composition of edible caterpillars would be much appreciated. I hope I am clear now.

Yes, I have looked at some of the INFOODs Africa food composition tables.

Best regards

Robert

Dear Robert,

Did you take a look at the information on the FAO/INFOODS website? – see http://www.fao.org/infoods/infoods/tables-and-databases/africa/en/. There are several tables/publications available for download.

If you already did, could you maybe specify a little more what you are looking for – the subject “West and Central African foods, with a focus on forest foods” is quite broad.

All the best,

Anders

Dear All,

I am looking for any form of literature/data for food composition of African foods, most especially data, of the west and central African foods, with a focus on forest foods.

Please share your literature/publication with me, even if it is country specific. You will be acknowledged in my report/publication.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Robert .
