= ANALOGY - I begin my presentation by asking you to indulge me for a few= minutes while I share with you a highly improbable, fictional scenario invo= lving a hospital patient. However, due to certain des= tructive man-made as well natural events inflicted on the patient over the y= ears, the patient developed acute anaemia. As a result, the patient lost wei= ght, causing his muscles to droop around his still visible, but diminished a= thletic frame and his face to become lean and haggard.

Hum= ane Society of Grand Bahama looks to the future with new initiatives<= /strong>

We= are so grateful for our regular supporters (local and abroad) stepping up t= o help once again, and for some wonderful new supporters, both local and abr= oad. However, we must emphasize that we are not out of the woods. This is no= t a temporary crisis with a quick fix.  We need to obtain enough fundin= g to keep our doors open. And we should be able to find this within ourselve= s and our island.

In order for the HSGB to continue to provide all t= he services necessary for Grand Bahama's animal issues, we not only need an = influx of funds to pay off our debt (as of Tuesday night, funds raised will = cover about 15% of this), we need increased ongoing support in order to stay= out of debt.  Especially from those who benefit directly from the work= we do; that is, the residents and businesses of Grand Bahama. Prime Mi= nister speaks on the topic 'Think: Growth - Global Opportunities - Can We Co= mpete?' at Bahamas Economic Outlook conference

=

First An= nual Bahamas Economic Outlook

Tuesday= , February 3<= /o:p>

Nassau

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.

I welcome this opportunity to address this Fir= st Annual Bahamas Economic Outlook sponsored by the Fidelity Group of Compan= ies. I would like at this time to thank Mr. Anwar Sunderji, Mr. Gregory Beth= el and their team for this undertaking which complements the ongoing discour= ses on the State of our Nation and the work which has to be accomplished, to= be done by the Government in partnership with the private sector, if we are= to sustain progress on all facets of our national development.

I hav= e been asked to bring remarks on the theme: "Think: Growth - Global Opp= ortunities - Can We Compete?"

This rightly positions us to take = stock of where we are now in this economy and to look ahead to how we can po= sition ourselves for the opportunities that lie in front of us in the global= economy.

I am confident that our economy will grow at a healthier pa= ce in 2015 than last year, and in measure because of the progress that we co= ntinue to see in attracting foreign investments to our shores and because of= the stronger momentum from the United States and other major economies that= fuel our tourism product.
