The purpose of the research is to compile existing and convergent research findings and recommendations and to identify possible gaps in current EU policy and programming. Looking at current practices and how they are perceived by youth should also contribute to a constructive debate with the European Union and member states in Europe and indeed in those in countries in which we work about what needs to change and how such change could be supported and sustained. The reserach will cover: · What are young African women and men’s aspirations with regard to farming and the agri-food sector in general? · What barriers do they face as they try to address food and nutrition insecurity in the context of rapid climate and economic change? · What can be done about those barriers to youth engagement in farming and agri-food business in Africa? · What could enable young women and men living in rural areas to engage successfully and sustainably in farm livelihoods? · Are Europe’s current policies and programming addressing these issues adequately? Reserach will include a desk study of exisiting research and field work in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Malawi.
