Dear colleagues,

The Equator Prize 2015 call for nominations is now open.  CANARI is disseminating information about this call as of course it would be wonderful to have Caribbean nominations for this very competitive Prize.

The Equator Prize 2015 will honor 20 outstanding local and indigenous community initiatives that are reducing poverty, protecting nature, and strengthening resilience in the face of climate change.

This cycle of the award has the theme empowerment, rights, and partnerships for local climate action and an emphasis on indigenous peoples and local communities that are:

·         Protecting, restoring and sustainably managing forests

·         Promoting sustainable agriculture and food security

·         Advancing community-based adaptation to climate change

·         Protecting and securing rights to communal lands, territories and natural resources

·         Forging innovative partnerships for sustainable development

Each winning initiative will receive US$ 10,000 and be supported to participate in a series of special events at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, France in December 2015.

Nomination forms and outreach materials are available in 15 different languages here. A video introducing the Equator Prize is available here, and videos on a few Equator Prize 2014 winners available here (Ecuador), here (Kenya), and here (Nepal).

Please note that the nomination deadline is 27 May, 2015.
