Greening Commodity Agriculture:

Agri-Environmental Policy in East and Southeast Asia

What?

This September, the World Bank and EcoAgriculture Partners are excited to launch the book Steps Toward Green, a collaborative study on agricultural commodity landscapes and environmental policy in East and Southeast Asia.

Ccommodities like coffee, rice, tea, and oil palm are enjoyed worldwide, but have come at a high environmental cost for East and Southeast Asia, with impacts on health, local economies and critical natural resources. While widespread innovations in agri-environmental policy have taken root in the region, there is a gap between environmental aspirations and its applications. The countries of the region are well-positioned to strengthen the impact of such efforts through integrated strategies to make commodity agriculture environmentally sustainable.

In this launch and round table discussion, leading experts in environmental sustainability and agricultural development will discuss the various roles policymakers can assume to make environmental stewardship a regional reality in Asia, and beyond.

Speakers will be announced shortly.
