Dear colleagues,
As a response to Nicolay, I am very pleased to say that there were a number of familiar faces from the Lagos meeting in Dakar last week. I found the Symposium to be quite interesting and civil society organizations and organic movements were well represented. The event has also received quite a bit of media coverage, I am sharing a list of news reports below.
Best,
Allison

Dear Sarah

Thanks for this. Nice to hear from you. I remember eating huge healthy meal together in Bridges Nairobi. Happy.

Yes a press release would be a great next step. I have copied in this virtual think tank email circle my fellow UNCTADian Mr Malick Kane, who together with Henrique Pacini delivered the UNCTAD presentation at the conference.
Malik, Henrique, it would be great if we as UNCTAD could help disseminate the AUC-AfrONet --other partners via the UNCTAD website and eventually as a joint press release. It would be great if you two could make this happen.

organic hugs to all

Sophia

Dear all,
To the glory of God, as many of us could have been informed, the 3rd African Organic Conference main events came to a close yesterday with a general comment that it was a successful conference.
Also, the General Assemblies of West African Organic Network and AfrONet went well.
Cameroun shall be hosting the next conference in 2018.
Please find attached the declaration of the conference.
Many thanks for your supports, guidance and encouragements.
God bless you all real good!

Dear colleagues,
Thank you very much for the stimulating three days of the conference. I am very happy to have been a part of this great event and I do hope that we can move this work forward from the side of FAO as well.
In order to begin to do this, is it possible for the organizers to send me the final version of the declaration from the conference and particularly the INOFO statement?
I will include these in my report that I am writing and I will then pass this report to my colleagues who are organizing the Agroecology Symposium.
Thank you again for a great conference and I am looking forward to the next meeting in Cameroon!
Best regards,
Allison

Hi!

The conference was a success. You and the LOC have scored a first despite various security, healthy and other challenges. We are proud of you. God bless AfrONet. God bless Nigeria. God bless Africa.

I will appreciate it if you availed me a copy of the conference declaration before I leave Nigeria for a press release and conference when I arrive in Zambia.

Good night

Dear members of the Virtual Think Tank Committee of the 3rd African Organic Conference,
First, this is to appreciate your compliments, follow up and further suggestions with respectto the on going 3rd African Organic Conference. Glory be to God, the events are going on well.
I am sorry that I have not been able to feed you back on the progress and respond to your mails; I have been so engaged from morning till late in the evening, with so many sensitive issues with respect to the conference.
So far so good, the Day 1 and 2 of the conference went well. The opening event was graced by so many high level dignitaries and ended with the declaration of 12 Organic Champions / Ambassadors in Africa. Some of the members of this Virtual Think Tank Committee (including Dr. Sophia, (Dr.) Gunnar, Prof. Adeoye and Prof. Simplice). One of the State Governors in Nigeria announced a support of a free portion of land in the State for the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria for organic farming. A Press Conference took place immediately after the Opening Ceremony. There were several presentations by the representative of African Union Commission, President of African Organic Network (AfrONet), CEO of IIFOAM-Organics International, Director of BvAT, reps of FiBL and ICROFS. For the first time in the history of the African, the African Organic Fair took place with exhibitions from many countries in Africa.
The second day involved many parallel sessions. The Farmers' Forum of farmers from many countries in Africa and beyond went on a field trip, Policy Forum of participants from many governmental and private organizations within and outside Africa also took place. The various fora were taskeed to come up with pressing issues addressing the theme of the conference. There was also a parallel session of Organic agriculture research presentations, as well as many plenary presentations.
The 3rd Day events ongoing. They have been mind blowing issues on organic trade by UNCTAD, NOAMS and Kate's Organics, addressing challenges of Organic farmers and opportunities for involvement of youths in Organic Agriculture. The Farmers Forum ongoing too at another location in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
Many thanks specifically to Sue, Sophia and others that have shared their compliments, feedback and suggestions with respect to the conference. The suggestion on press release shall be worked on. So much many press organizations are on ground.
More Updates later.
Thank you.

Subject: Re: 3rd African Organic Conference: With you in spirit!! Go team go!!!!
Thank you so much dear friends!

I think my colleague Henrique is coming or there? I hope?

So I am wondering, did I make the final cut for the Organic Ambassador / EAO Champion list? I assume my invitation as EAO Champion and the agenda item on the Organic Ambassadors presentation by the African Union Commission were one and the same. did you settle on a final title so to speak.?
Just wondering so I can let my bosses know.

I am so honoured. Thank you my friends.

Id love to sure with you a ppt presentation on partnerships I made on behalf of UNCTAD for the Milan Expo. And also a 4 minute film about my organic garden Il Paradiso Bio Mio which Jordan Gama inspected in June 2015 and certified to the East African Organic Products Standard! Hurray!
We believe this is the first farm outside of Africa to be certified to the EAOPS. I love it. Of course, my backyard is small so I produce for family consumption. Just like an African smallholder household. Loving it! You all continue to inspire me. Please come visit me in Geneva some day.

One thing I have noticed: there's no press pick up of AOC3. I suggest a press release or two. Get the local press to come to the conference. Usually you need to offer them an interview with a Minister or surely one of the former presidents of the country would do very well and free food.
And the big press bang should be using the communique. IFOAM does press releases. UNEP and FAO too. There must be a UN DPI department of public information those two organisations could access. Gunnar can write a good press release. Use the big names and mobilise the African press. Send the light in the darkness photo and others

Best of luck

may all the angels and Light and Joy and Love and Passion for Organics and Life be with you this week

Shine shine shine

Sophia :-)
