*for sustainable production intensification*

Dear Subscribers,

At the climate conference - COP 21, APAD <http://www.apad.asso.fr/>
(Association pour la Promotion d'une Agriculture Durable -- No-Till
Sustainable Agriculture, France) hosted a side meeting on 5 December on
behalf of the Global Conservation Agriculture Network (G-Can) on the role
of Conservation Agriculture in addressing climate change issues (see APAD
meeting programme attached).

A Manifesto (“Farming Forward for Climate Change”) supported by national
and regional organizations of farmers practicing Conservation Agriculture
was launched at the meeting. The Manifesto is attached for your information.

APAD also organized a visit to a Conservation Agriculture farm near Paris
to learn more about this no-till production systems from the farmer.

The other event relevant to Conservation Agriculture stakeholders was the 4
per 1000
<http://newsroom.unfccc.int/lpaa/agriculture/join-the-41000-initiative-soils-for-food-security-and-climate/>
initiative proposed by the French Agriculture Minister Stephane Le Foll
which calls for carbon to be put back into the soil through appropriate
land use practices. The initiative calls for an average increase in soil
carbon by 0.04% per annum. Clearly, Conservation Agriculture can make a
major contribution to this objective.

*Carbon farming gets a nod at Paris climate conference.*
In hashing out a binding agreement in Paris at the 2015 U.N. Climate Change
Conference for curbing greenhouse gas emissions, world leaders, for the
first time have made the capture of carbon in soil a formal part of the
global response to the climate crisis. (USA public radio article) Read More

It appears 2016 will bring more opportunities for CA and soil carbon.
