More than 600 publications related to aquaculture, including CD-ROMs, web-based products and newsletters, have been published and distributed worldwide during this period, in both hard and electronic versions. This compilation makes sixteen years of publications readily available to and searchable by all users, especially those with limited access to the internet. Users can easily search publications (also available as PDF files in other FAO official languages) through the publication list or through a free text-based search engine that performs search on titles, abstracts, authors, keywords and year of publication. Hard copies may be requested by contacting V. The Algerian government has set among its priorities the development of marine aquaculture particularly the establishment of fish farms for rearing European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax<http://www.fao.org/fishery/culturedspecies/Dicentrarchus_labrax/en>) and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata<http://www.fao.org/fishery/culturedspecies/Sparus_aurata/en>) in cages and Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis<http://www.fao.org/fishery/culturedspecies/Mytilus_galloprovincialis/en>) in longlines. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MPRH) of Algeria has requested FAO assistance to implement this programme. Information: V. Seventeen participants were present from 10 countries (Egypt, Jordan Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates), and were predominantly from the Ministry-associated aquaculture research centres. The 4-day workshop consisted of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on activities supported by aquaponic experts. It included a valuable group session where participants created technical designs and draft business plans based on real data from their home country using an FAO developed planning tool. An initial capacity needs assessment was conducted on the first day, and in response the workshop gave added focus to plant production and health (as they were already skilled in fish production). Additional time was dedicated to network-building, and soft skills including advocacy, training and discussions. Information: A. It will examine the progress and prospects for farming offshore and will include the latest legislation, technical advances and investment opportunities which effect the day to day running and profitability of the offshore farming business.
