ISOFAR International Society of Organic Farming Research
Annual report 2015
Dear members and friends of ISOFAR,
The year 2015 is nearly gone. There were a lot of action happen in our non-profit global network of Organic Farming Scientists (www.ISOFAR.org). We have attended and supported many events and acitivities, including networking and meeting of each other on the several occasions. This has all done on volunteer level, without extra payment. I thank all the scientists, who have spend their valuable time and skills for free for our actions.
The most important ISOFAR event and the biggest Organic event ever was the 1st International ISOFAR Organic Expo Science meets Public from 18th September to 11th October 2015 in Goesan, Southkorea. About 1,1 mio visitors came (paid), therefore individuals 692,765, in groups 324,377 and foreigner 63,151. We have held 19 scientific events with 5,300 participants from 37 countries. 6 scientific events have been international with 2,210 participants. This event will never be forgotten and thanks to the Chumbuk government, who gave us the chance to show the value of Organic farming, and the contribution of research.
The most advanced scientific event in 2015 was the ISOFAR symposium: Organic 3.0 is innovation with research, held with 36 invited participants from 20-22 September 2015 on the LOHAS academy in Southkorea. At this symposium we have prepared a draft for the coming Scientific track at the Organic World Congress 2017, held in India.
Not to forget the 3rd African Organic Congress from 5-9 October 2015, held in Lagos, Nigeria. Our ISOFAR board member has be part of the organizing committee and ISOFAR was the partner and producer of the procedings. Because of this great event with 220 participants from 22 African countries, Nigeria is now the country with the most ISOFAR members (52 members), and has overtaken Germany (51 members). I thank Victor and his nigerian colleagues for their efforts to organize the event, particularly wiht the great and kind mood.
The most important aspect is the growing membership of ISOFAR. Now, we are 344 ISOFAR members (see table below) and jumped 2015 the first time above 300 paying full members (+125 in 2015). Additionally we have more than 1574 ISOFAR supporter, who support the society with their skills and other support. Beside this, we are also healthy but not wealthy in terms of money. As non-profit organisation (registered in Germany) we are not allowed to have big money on the account and are not allowed to make business activities. But we are happy that we have no financing problems for our activities. But: become member and we become even stronger.
The members pay the annual membership fee and get free excess to our Journal of Organic Agriculturefor 345 Euro a year). The membership is a good value, particularly for members in High (30 Euro membership fee per year), Middle (15 Euro) and Low (7.50 Euro) Human Development Index. Also students have a great advantage to be member, because the pay half of the membership fee. Additionally, we have 1,211 friends, who are ideal members, do not pay but support ISOFAR. All of them I like to thank for their support in 2015.
The Journal of Organic Agriculture is now in the fifth year and we have already 136 scientific papers published (www.springer.com/life+science/agriculture/13165/). The Journal becomes more and more recognized and reputated in the world of science, and we have an increasing numbers of good papers coming in. The acceptance rate is about 30%, what shows us the good peer-reviewed procedure to look for quality. I thank all authors (also those, who submitted a paper, which has not been accepted) and reviewers for their support. This is also done on volunteer level. But: all reviewes, which have been done will reduce the membership fee for ISOFAR. Therefore, if you like to get membership reduction, please let me know, if you are interested to become reviewer (PhD, and with special reason also MSc, is the minimum requirement).
