Dear all, We are writing to inform you about a FAO/WHO global call for data for new JEMRA work on Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC)/Shigatoxigenic E. coli (STEC), and to ask you to forward this message to colleagues you think should be aware of this. In response to the request of the 45th Session of the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene FAO and WHO are embarking on new work on VTEC/STEC to provide scientific advice to guide the development of appropriate Codex standards or guidelines on VTEC/STEC. Building on the work of FERG<http://who.int/foodsafety/foodborne_disease/ferg/en/>, this initiative will address questions related to food attribution, identification and characterization of VTEC/STEC serovars of concern and approaches for monitoring. FAO and WHO have issued a global call for data to facilitate the inclusion of information from as many countries as possible into this work. The deadline for replies is 17th June 2016. Feedback from countries is critical to ensure the information documents developed and advice provided reflects the global situation to the extent possible.
