Celebrating 10 Years
of GBEP activities: working together for sustainable development
It’s been 10 years since the official launch of GBEP at the 14th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD14). GBEP was founded on the idea that bioenergy can significantly
contribute to energy access and security, climate change mitigation, food security, and ultimately sustainable development. The last decade has marked considerable growth for the organization, now counting with more than 70 members and an expanded number of
activities in different countries.
GBEP’s annual Bioenergy Week this year moved to Eastern Europe and Central Asia, to focus on efforts to expand biomass energy production from energy crop and agrifood wastes in this area
of the world, as well as on related technology developments, market advancements and the constraints facing bioenergy industries in these countries.
