The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the African
Nutrition Society (ANS) are inviting proposals from East African Countries (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi) to
host the 8th African Nutrition Epidemiology Conference, to be held in 2018. The
ANS oversees the biennial ANEC Conferences hosted across Africa at sub-regional
locations. ANEC conferences started in 2002 in Pretoria-South Africa, 2006 in Accra-Ghana,
2008 in Cairo-Egypt, 2010 in Nairobi-Kenya, 2012 in Bloemfontein-South Africa,
2014 in Accra-Ghana, 2016 in Marrakesh Morocco and 2018 to be held in East
Africa Region.
The
interested candidate countries must submit to the ANS Council a letter of intent and a proposal expressing interest to host the
symposium. The proposal must reach the Council at least
2 months prior to the conference preceding the one (ANEC VIII) they
wish to host. However, the
candidate countries, if they so desire, will be given an opportunity to deliver
a 5 minute PowerPoint presentation at the closing ceremony of ANEC VII in
Marrakesh Morocco. All interested countries will then be invited to submit a
full proposal within three months. Six months later, the decision of the
Council will be announced.
The proposal expressing interest to host should
include:
i.
Background of the country also indicating the
political stability of the country – 1 page
ii.
Ministry support e.g. Health; Agriculture; Education
etc. (separate from below to get political buy in)
iii.
Institutional support (evidenced by letter of support)
iv.
Support of professional association ( letter of
support)
v.
Proposed local organizing committee (LOC) with CV
and contact details for the proposed LOC Head who will also serve as the
Conference Chair
vi.
Proposed composition of the scientific committee
vii.
Proposed venue and facilities available for the conference, giving an overall
estimate for the cost of the premises for a 5-day conference.
viii.
Availability of accommodation (at affordable rates
for young participants)
ix.
Cost estimates for venue, hotels and student
accommodation costs, plus cost of other logistics.
x.
Proposed social programmes
xi.
Feasibility of organizing the conference in English
xii.
Indication of possible local funding and sponsorships
plans"
xiii.
Demonstrate capability to host ANEC- e.g providing
evidence of similar conferences previously hosted by candidate country.
xiv.
For repeat bidders- positive post ANEC report
