Special Report - FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission to the Syrian Arab Republic

14 November 2016

OBJECTIVES

A joint FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Mission (CFSAM) visited the Syrian Arab Republic between 15 June and 1 July 2016 to estimate crop production and assess the overall food security situation. On arrival in the Syrian Arab Republic, the international members of the CFSAM team spent six days in Damascus prior to going to the field. During this period, they had an initial inter‑agency meeting (FAO and WFP) to discuss the strategy and itinerary for the CFSAM. Meetings were then held with the Ministry of Agricultural and Agrarian Reform (MAAR), the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of the Environment, the General Organization of Trade and Processing of Cereals (HOBOOB), the General Organization of Feed, and the General Organization of Seed Multiplication, in order to get an overview of the agricultural situation in the country for 2015/16.
