How can we shape food systems so that they deliver foods for a healthy and nutritious diet? How
do we ensure poor communities have access to markets that sell nutritious foods at affordable prices?
What information should be included on food labels to promote healthier diets?
These are among the pressing questions for discussion at the upcoming
International
Symposium on Sustainable Food Systems for Healthy Diets and Improved Nutrition
taking place December 1-2
at FAO Headquarters in Rome.
The high-level event—co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health
Organization (WHO)—builds on the successful Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2)
held in November 2014.
The symposium, which will be web cast live, will bring together policymakers and parliamentarians, international experts
and scientists, chefs and young innovators, to examine concrete ways to change food systems so that they respond to current and future nutrition challenges, including climate change, population growth and economic inequalities.
