[FAO] [Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition]<http://www.fao.org/fsnforum/> For Info 22 February 2017 [_] The future of food and agriculture. Trends and challenges. [_] Dear Members, We would like to point your attention to a new FAO report, relased today, which analyses current trends that impact the future ability of mankind to feed itself. In a scenario of a growing population and moderate economic growth, global demand for agricultural products will increase by 50 percent, increasing the risk of additional pressures on over-strained and depleted natural resources. As we plan ahead, will today’s agriculture and food systems be able to sustainably meet the needs of a global growing population tomorrow? The short answer is yes. But with a caveat as this will require a major overhaul in how we operate within our agricultural systems, rural economies and natural resource management. [Trends and challenges]<http://bit.ly/2l72YlP> The report cuts straight to the heart of FAO work on the Sustainable Development Goals: to live in a sustainable world by 2030 we have to take into account the trends and challenges that we see for food and agriculture in the future.
