Dear Zoe, Thanks for your final work on this. I suggest we put a final date to this – say June 15th when we send it for publication.
Duncan and Marguerite – and others – can we do this??

Subject: RE: Self assessment tool for POs_FINAL draft_040517.doc
Dear Jeff, dear colleagues,
Please find attached the revised self-assessment tool, integrating Kisoyan´s inputs and FFF recommendations, in particular:
·
In the section “Action plan”, a few more details on the expected actions
·
In annex, an example of completed improvement plan
·
In annex, a list of capacity development tool
These inputs are highlighted in yellow in the text for your review and clearance.
I like Kisoyan´s proposal to add “knowledge management” as a dimension of organizational capacities defined in page 6. Yet due to a lack of detailed inputs, I haven´t incorporated it to the tool. If you wish
to do so, I invite you to provide the necessary inputs in the checklist of questions (section 2).
As next steps:
1.
In Annex 2, I would kindly ask
Marguerite and Duncan to fill the list of useful capacity development tools produced by FFF, Agricord and IIE and FAO. I have listed a few ones but I am not sure it provides a comprehensive overview of the available material.
2.
I will send next week a
picture for the cover.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your hard work on the tool. I personally believe that the elimination of the business part is a missed opportunity for us to provide to the general public a comprehensive
tool on PO’s capacity assessment. Splitting the two faces of organization development is simply not in line with reality when we know that for POs to develop and thrive, both a good software (the organizational dimension) and a hardware (the business dimension)
are needed. I do not see the value and the usefulness for POs of having separate tools for each of the organization development dimensions- especially when the available tools does not provide synthetic and handy assessment tools for POs on the business part.
Separating the organizational from the business dimension encourages a silo approach to capacity development, which is quite the opposite of FAO´s capacity development approach that is defined by FAO´s CD strategy as necessarily holistic.
In any case, I hope this self-assessment tool can still be found useful by some POs.
I look forward to its publication.
Best regards,
Zoé
