Dear all,

We are kindly inviting you to participate in this exercise whose purpose is for us to prepare better and with additional "foresight" our future actions and interventions. With your contribution, you will help us to gather better information and you will become members of the FAO Livestock Foresight Network of Experts and be involved in future activities and updating. Your answers will be handled confidentially, but as member of the network, you will be informed with the results of the survey. This exercise is a first step to identify issues that could lead to specific thematic fora and workshops. We would be grateful if you could provide us your opinion by filling in the attached word document and send it back to us by 15 July 2017.

FAO is carrying out a foresight exercise to identify issues of emerging importance in the future in the livestock sector and more specifically in:

Animal health

Animal welfare

Animal production

Feed safety

Safety of food of animal origin

These issues can be:

* completely new and unexpected OR

* expected as consequence of the current situation OR

* already existing, but of increased importance in the future OR

What is foresight?
Foresight is the purposeful act of looking forward in order to gain knowledge about the future, and is supported by a collection of 'forward looking' techniques that can be used to support decision-making, in particular strategic decisions.

How does it work?
This exercise is a forward thinking process. It is a very important and interesting exercise that we want you to be a part of. Please, note that we would like to receive your personal, honest and informal opinion, not the official position of the institution/organization/company you are working for. Replying requires you to think "out of the box" and "leave your professional comfort zone" letting aside image and career restrains while always maintaining a professional, scientific and evidence based approach. Do not hesitate to express controversial and less popular aspects and opinions 9you are not going to be judged for those). You need to think beyond the usual boundaries. Considering the complexity and the multi-sectorial nature of the livestock sector, we are conducting this survey among a number of different stakeholders (from research centers, academia, intergovernmental organizations, national authorities, private sector, financial institutions, civil society, professional organizations, food movements, etc.) worldwide.

Please, do not hesitate to contact us for additional information.

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Daniela
