Highlights

The
Ninth session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI), Sub-Committee on Aquaculture (SCA) runs from 24-27 October 2017 and will take place at FAO, Rome. Delegations from FAO Member States, UN Specialized Agencies and Related Organizations, and Intergovernmental
organizations/Non-governmental organizations, have been invited to attend this session of COFI-SCA.

The Aquaculture Branch of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department has published the
FAO Aquaculture Newsletter (FAN) 57. FAN is issued two times a year. It presents articles and views from the FAO aquaculture programme
and highlights various aspects of aquaculture as seen from the perspective of both headquarters and the regional and subregional offices in the field.

Advancing Aquaponics Training
– FAO supports the development of aquaponics throughout the Caribbean region. It started with a regional technical workshop hosted at Indies Greens in Antigua from 14-18 August 2017. Blog:

A regional workshop for training and verification of technical guidelines for innovative rice-fish farming and climate resilient tilapia culture
was conducted from 12-14 September 2017 in Bangkok as one of the major regional activities of the project TCP/RAS/3603. Twenty-one participants including the national project coordinators, project national consultants and key national project staff and the
project international consultant joined the regional workshop.

A FAO project supporting scaling-up of integrated mangrove-shrimp farming system in Southern Viet Nam
started with a stakeholder consultation, which was jointly organized by FAO and Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Ca Mau, Viet Nam on 20th of July 2017. The project will support the government of Viet Nam for
the development and scaling up good practices of integrated mangrove-shrimp farming in Bac Lieu and Ca Mau Provinces through a number of key project interventions.
