Pope Francis will join
FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva, several G7 agriculture ministers and European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan
to celebrate World Food Day 2017 at FAO on 16 October. IFAD President Gilbert F. Houngbo and WFP Executive Director David Beasley will also participate.
World Food Day 2017 takes place in the context of a world where more people have been forced to flee their homes than at any time since World War II due to increased conflict and political
instability. Global hunger, which is
on the rise for the first time in decades, poverty, and an increase in extreme weather events linked to climate change are other important factors contributing to the migration challenge.
