One of our members has drawn my attention to the Tropical Agriculture Association (TAA) which, though based in the UK, has a broad membership concerned with the role of agriculture for sustainable development throughout the world. Briefly,
TAA brings together people and organisations from developed and less-developed countries to enable them to contribute to agricultural policy, development, research, education and skills in support of equitable and sustainable agriculture and natural resources
management. TAA has five regional branches in the UK and other branches in the Caribbean, India, Pacific region, Thailand and Zambia/Southern Africa, all of which organize regular meetings and events. In addition, the Association organises annual lectures
and presentations on a topical issue related to international agricultural development, and publishes a journal – Agriculture for Development – three times a year. This includes updates on developments in agriculture throughout the world, papers presented
at seminars, book reviews, and publicity of events, etc. Members of the Association have access to the Journal and are able to network with other members through access to a common Membership Database.
I encourage those FFOA members who would like to maintain and update their professional interests in agricultural development to have a look at the TAA website (http://www.taa.org.uk/) and consider joining
the Association. Benefits of membership and application procedures are also given on the website.
Regards, Alan Prien, President, FFOA.
