* On 20 March 2018, the FAO's Global Aquaculture Production Quantity and Value Statistics were published online with the time series updated to cover 67 years from 1950 to 2016 (value data from 1984 to 2016). There are statistical details significantly improved retroactively for some back years for some countries, including a few global and regional major producing countries. Three new separate datasets (Capture, Aquaculture, and combined Total Production) are openly accessible to all data users and can be consulted through FishStatJ<http://www.fao.org/fishery/statistics/software/fishstatj/en> or through online query panels<http://www.fao.org/fishery/topic/16140/en>.
Revealed by the latest data, the global aquaculture production (including aquatic plants) in 2016 was 110.2 million tonnes, valued at USD 243.5 billion. This total production included 80.0 million tonnes of food fish (finfish, crustaceans, molluscs and other animal species) and 30.1 million tonnes of aquatic plants (mostly seaweeds).
