Dear Dairy Team,
Greeting from NDDB Foundation for Nutrition, India
National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), India has been involved in dairy development programmes for the country for over five decades. Operation Flood, World's
largest Dairy Development programme, implemented by NDDB helped establish a nation-wide dairy cooperative network that linked rural milk producers with urban markets along with supporting facilities for increasing milk production.
In spite of progress in increasing food production, malnutrition is still a problem in many of India’s households owing to inadequate
consumption of critical nutrients resulting in a significant number of children being stunted, wasted or underweight. In a predominantly vegetarian country, milk can help prevent the ill-effects of nutritional deficiencies. While per capita availability of
milk in India is now more than the world average, consumption of milk is constrained by inadequate purchasing power in many of India’s households, including in rural areas.
As NDDB felt the need for a focused initiative to provide nutrition support through milk to children from weaker sections/ rural parts
of the country, it has set up NDDB Foundation for Nutrition (NFN). NFN has already started distributing ready to drink fortified flavoured milk in Government schools sourced from dairy cooperatives to school children with the help of donations received under
the Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) of companies.
As a part of World Milk Day celebration on 1st June 2018, NFN distributed flavoured milk in a Zilla Parishad School, Medchal
district of Telangana state. An awareness program was also organized on ‘benefits of regular consumption of milk’ for the children.
NFN believes that any investment in addressing malnutrition through school milk programme would benefit and transform the lives of children
and help build a strong nation.
Lets join hands to ‘Gift a child a better tomorrow’
Regards,
NDDB Foundation for Nutrition
