Dear Partners and Observers,
Many thanks to those of you who attended the GBEP meetings in Rome at the end of November. Please find attached for your information the summaries of the 10th Meeting of the Working Group on Capacity Building, 16th
Meeting of the Task Force on Sustainability, and 21st Meeting on the Steering Committee.
The GBEP meetings represent an opportunity for Partners and Observers to discuss and plan for the activities of the coming year. As such, below, we have summarised the main follow-up points for your consideration and action. All relevant
documentation can be found in the
Dropbox folder. Please note that the deadline for inputs is 18 January 2019.
Working Group on Capacity Building:
·
Activity Group 3 – 7th Bioenergy Week to be held in Manila, the Philippines in June 2019 focused on themes of direct interest to Asia.
Inputs are welcomed by 18 January 2019 on potential themes and speakers for the Bioenergy Week, so that a draft agenda can be developed and circulated.
·
Activity Group 4 will explore the new theme of ‘woody biomass for forest landscape restoration and sustainable livelihoods’.
Partners and Observers are invited to express their interest to join the AG4 by 18 January 2019 in order to be take part in the discussions around this new theme.
·
Activity Group 8 on advanced liquid biofuels was formally established under the leadership of the U.S.A. and the Scope of Work was agreed.
Expression of interest from Partners and Observers to join AG8 is requested by 18 January 2019.
The final text of the AG8 Scope of Work, as discussed and agreed during the WGCB meeting, is available in the
Dropbox folder.
Task Force on Sustainability

The Implementation Guide will be finalised by the end of April 2019.
This will include the following components:
o
Technical Report on Attribution – A final version of this report (to be updated with minor edits) will be circulated to Partners and Observers by 14 December 2018 for their feedback.
Inputs are requested by 18 January 2019 so that the document can be finalised by the end of February 2019.
o
Stepwise Approach and Flowchart –
Comments are welcomed by 18 January 2019
so that the documents can be finalised by the end of February 2019.
o
Proxies and best practices – Final comments on this document, and further relevant references, are welcomed by
18 January 2019 so that the document can be finalised by the end of February 2019.
o
Economic and social sub-groups of TFS –
All inputs on the 2018 sub-group reports are requested by 18 January 2019
so that the Sub-group texts can be finalised by end of February 2019.
o
Environmental sub-group of TFS –
A revised draft of the sub-group will be circulated to Partners and Observers by Mid-January 2019 at the latest and
final teleconferences will be held in late January 2019 to resolve any remaining issues. The Sub-group text will be finalised by end of February 2019.

Bioenergy and the broader bioeconomy – An electronic discussion group will be established on this topic in order to exchange views and opportunities in view of further discussions to be held at the November 2019
GBEP meetings. Partners and Observers are invited to express their interest to join this group by 18 January 2019.
