This year’s World Food Day highlights the need to make healthy diets available and affordable to all. It takes place in a global context of rising hunger but also of increasing overweight and obesity.
With events in some 150 countries and under the slogan “Our actions are our future. Healthy diets for a #ZeroHunger world”, FAO and its WFD partners call for faster and more ambitious action across
sectors to achieve SDG2 – Zero Hunger.
Global ceremony:
9:15-10:45, Plenary Hall
Speakers will include the Prime Minister of Italy
Giuseppe Conte, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Gilbert F. Houngbo and
World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director David M. Beasley.
The following ministers will also speak at the event:
Edward Francisco Centeno Gadea Minister for Agriculture of Nicaragua,
Joaquim José Gusmão dos Reis Martins Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries of
Timor-Leste, Kassoum Denon Minister Commissioner for Food Security of
Mali, Elina Kalkku Vice Minister, Development Policy, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of
Finland, Mariam bint Saeed Hareb Al Mehairi Minister of State for Food Security of the
United Arab Emirates.
There will be messages as well from
Pope Francis and the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Special Event featuring a lecture by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs:

The lecture will focus on food, agriculture and sustainable development.
Exhibit:
14:30-15:30, Atrium
The World Food Day exhibit will showcase facts, figures, actions, stories and recipes for healthier diets and healthier lives, and will be inaugurated by FAO Director-General
Qu Dongyu.
World Food Day is marked each year on 16 October to commemorate FAO’s founding in 1945.

MEDIA ACCREDITATION
If you wish to attend World Food Day events, the deadline for media accreditation is Monday, 14 October at 17:00 (Rome time). Please include scanned copies of a valid press card or letter of assignment on company stationery
and a copy of a valid ID (passport, identity card). You must have all ID materials with you to gain access to FAO premises.
Please note: Accreditation requests received after the deadline cannot be accepted.
