The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) of the Republic of Uganda and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host the 10th Anniversary of the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme and Future Perspectives of South South and Triangular Cooperation with the theme "Inspiration, Inclusion, and Innovation'. The event will be held from 25 - 27 November at the Commonwealth Speke Resort Munyonyo, in Kampala, Uganda.
The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will be the special guest and will address the event on 26 November.
The event is expected to attract over 200 international delegates from over 40 countries, including agriculture ministers from the various SSC participating countries and close to 150 national participants.
Roberto Ridolfi, FAO's Assistant-Director-General for Programme Support and Technical Cooperation, will also speak about the contribution of SSC to agricultural innovation and development.
South-South (SSC) and Triangular Cooperation <http://www.fao.org/partnerships/south-south-cooperation/en/> - involving third countries and other partners - have been effective in creating jobs, fostering production, productivity and profitability, building infrastructure and promoting trade across the global South. The FAO-China SSC programme has benefited over 70, 000 people at the grass-roots level in rural areas and hundreds of thousands of others indirectly.
During the last two decades of South-South Cooperation at FAO (1996-present), more than $370 million has been invested in the programme, and more than 2000 experts and technicians have been deployed worldwide. Currently, FAO has approximately 40 such projects in more than 90 host countries, including Uganda.
Uganda has benefited from SSC projects since December 2011 with support to enhance the agriculture sector and new strategies to boost the production and profitability of crops, livestock and fisheries. Some of the technologies and crop varieties introduced through SSC include: value addition to beef and potatoes, foxtail millet, improved apple agronomy, hybrid rice, livestock feed processing and feeding, agro-machinery, biogas and rice-fish culture.
Journalists & editors: You are invited to attend and cover the event and conduct interviews with key national and international delegates and beneficiaries of SSC in Uganda and beyond.
For accreditation please submit the names of the reporter/media representative assigned to this event by Thursday November 21, 2019 to Agatha Ayebazibwe [log in to unmask]
