-------------------
The Committee on Agriculture (COAG)<http://newsletters.fao.org/c/1wrNFiTbPud4HLm6XLhzbbQ> is one of FAO’s Governing Bodies providing overall policy and regulatory guidance on issues relating to agriculture, livestock, food safety, nutrition, rural development and natural resource management.

During the 27thSession of COAG, which took place from 28 September to 2 October 2020, delegates discussed, among other important items, Sustainable Livestock for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a main theme.

The livestock sector plays a key role in sustainable agricultural development.
It contributes directly or indirectly to each of the 17 SDGs. These contributions can be categorized under four strategic priority areas, or sustainability domains: food security, nutrition and healthy diets; inclusive economic growth and improving livelihoods; animal health and welfare; and natural resources and climate change.

For each of these strategic priority areas, the challenges and opportunities for the livestock sector were discussed during COAG 27, as well as the need for a holistic, inclusive and integrated approach to policy and technical actions for achieving the SDGs.

The seminar/webinar aims to inform FAO colleagues at Headquarters and Decentralized Offices, the FAO Sustainable Livestock Technical Network members and FAO partners on livestock related issues addressed during the 27th Session of COAG and its main outcomes, as well as and to discuss the way forward to implement them.
