Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends, Happy International Women's Day! Today we are celebrating how mountain women’s traditional craft techniques can improve livelihoods by highlighting the
partnership between Haitian-Italian fashion designer Stella Jean and mountain women in Kyrgyzstan. The women of the artisan group Topchu are creating a sustainable fashion collection featuring traditional designs in feltwork and embroidery, together
with designer Stella Jean. As a result of this collaboration being promoted by the Mountain Partnership Products Initiative and FAO Women's Committee, the women are building their own economic autonomy, revitalizing their traditions and reaching wider markets. The editorial “Cultural heritage lifting rural mountain women out of poverty” was
published today on
El País and
La Repubblica, signed by Marina Sereni, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, and Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director General, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,
along with a
video about the collaboration .The English version of the editorial is hereby enclosed. We want to hear from you! Let us know about your International Women's Day celebrations by sending a message to
