GIAHS Scientific Advisory Group
Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends, We are pleased to share with you the
call for
experts of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), a FAO Programme, which aims to identify unique agricultural
systems supported by agrobiodiversity, traditional knowledge, cultures and outstanding landscapes, aiming at conservation and development of the sites through a holistic approach. The GIAHS Scientific Advisory Group is an expert body, composed of 9 members nominated by FAO’s Director General, in their individual capacity (not as a representative
of a member country) taking into account regional and gender balance, to evaluate GIAHS proposal documents and make a final decision of designating GIAHS sites.
FAO is currently in the process of establishing a new SAG for the 2021-2022 term by identifying
three new experts representing Europe, North America and Asia/Pacific regions and two new experts without a regional requirement who are considered as having qualifications to perform the expected task. These five members will join the current four
members to form a new SAG. This call for experts is to solicit applicants for the five vacant positions. More information about this call be found
here. The deadline for the applications is Sunday, 6 June2021. Kindly share this call for applications with interested colleagues
