Bill Gates, the prominent philanthropist, will give the 2021 edition of the McDougall Memorial Lecture, a traditional event of the FAO Conference (14 – 18 June), which takes place every two years. The McDougall Memorial Lecture has been a powerful sounding
board for important voices in the fight against hunger and the promotion of sustainable agri-food systems.
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu will introduce the speaker.
The lecture will be live streamed on FAO’s home page via webcast here. It will take place on Monday, June 14, at 18:00 CEST.
Interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Russian and Spanish.
Those invited to give the McDougall Memorial
Lecture are persons of world standing while the subject is related to global problems related to agriculture, food supply, food systems and food security, subjects dear to Frank Lidgett McDougall, an Australian economist who was instrumental in galvanizing
support for the creation of FAO. A list of past lectures can be found here.
Bill Gates is the co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has generously contributed to FAO’s work, most recently in combating
desert locusts in Africa, and shares Director-General Qu’s passion for spreading and upscaling
innovation.
