Dear Partners and Observers, During the Task Force on Sustainability meeting in October 2020, the group dealing with the thematic area “Bioenergy in the context of the bioeconomy” led by IEA Bioenergy, agreed on a work plan<http://www.globalbioenergy.org/fileadmin/user_upload/gbep/docs/TFS/Bioeconomy/GBEP-TFS_Bioeconomy_Work_plan.pdf>, which includes as a first output, a joint GBEP and IEA Bioenergy technical paper on “Sustainability Governance of bioenergy and the bioeconomy”. The first draft of this Technical Paper was circulated to Partners and Observers in January 2021 (please see email below). Based on this review, as well as inputs from IEA Bioenergy Task 45, a final version has been prepared. The paper is attached to this email as well as being available on the GBEP website<http://www.globalbioenergy.org/programmeofwork/task-force-on-sustainability/bioeconomy/en/>. The Paper makes an important contribution to our understanding of the governance of the sustainability of bioenergy within the bioeconomy, both in terms of state of the art and also future perspectives. We look forward to discussing it further during the next TFS meeting towards the end of the year.
