Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends,

JSC Mountain together with the British Embassy in Italy and Land Tirol will host the Pre-COP26 event "Towards climate-smart Alpine forests" on Thursday, 30 September 2021 at 9–13 CET.

The Alps, a huge geological belt crossing Europe, define and regulate the climate beyond its confines, enclosing great geophysical diversity of rock formations, glaciers and watersheds, which divide North and Central Europe from the Mediterranean and North Africa. Biodiversity has evolved across these mountains, building up a complex genetic library, performing key regulating and maintenance ecosystem services such as preventing soil erosion, regulating water flows, storing carbon and providing habitats for rare species. Yet climate change now poses a critical threat to this hypercomplex system.

Experts from leading institutions – including the European Commission, University of Innsbruck, University of Milan, Mountain Partnership Secretariat and more – will debate on cutting-edge forestry management and scientific research, and on how the pricing of ecosystem services and innovative technologies can all contribute to increasing the adaptation and resilience of mountain forests.

Please see the attached flyer and programme for more information. To attend the webinar with the possibility to intervene in Q&A sessions, it is necessary to complete the registration form. Once registered, you will be sent the link to the event closer to 30 September.

Best regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
