Since the launch of the United Against Rabies Forum by the Directors General of FAO, OIE and WHO in September 2020, the pandemic has forced
a major review of global health policy. One Health – based on the intimate links between human, animal and environmental health, has become a policy priority in designing disease prevention strategies and ensuring future pandemic preparedness.
The big challenge is turning the One Health concept into practical action, especially in low income settings. Eliminating human deaths
from rabies – an ancient zoonotic disease for which there are effective vaccines and proven control strategies – can deliver concrete results for affected communities, as well as building the integrated systems that are so urgently needed to protect
people from future zoonotic shocks.
This series of stakeholder webinars will discuss how rabies control and prevention fit into a global One Health approach and its potential to
deliver tangible health benefits for hundreds of millions of people, especially in the 150 countries where rabies remains a serious public health problem.
