As part of a global assessment of the contribution of livestock to healthy diets and nutrition, FAO is currently analyzing literature related to the impact of livestock production practices, including genetic make- up of the animals themselves, on the nutritional quality of animal source food (ASF). The assessment aims at providing regional perspectives and context-specific illustrations. We are particularly looking for data and suggestions of peer-reviewed scientific publications focusing on: • local breeds with specific nutritional quality compared to international breeds; • specific breeds adapted to harsh environment with specific nutrient profile e.g. of fatty acids (preferably with separated effects of diet, altitude or other specific characteristics of the production environment or production system); • genetic improvement programmes where the breeding objective includes considerations related to human health outcomes (nutritional quality of ASF); and * any other practice having an impact on the nutritional quality of ASF.
