Dear Friends and Colleagues,
A new publication has just seen its light. It summarizes work on LT trials in 4 countries and suggests that:
a) CA systems outperform conventional tillage practices over time although at some sites the general yield trend of all cropping systems is downward whereas in others it is maintained or its trend is upward; b) trial sites that involved a rotation with legumes outperformed continuous sole maize systems, indicating the need for diversification in CA systems not only to suppress pest and diseases but also to improve soil quality, water- and nutrient-use efficiency; c) most benefits were evident under low to moderate rainfall and in well-draining soils, indicating that CA systems will be most beneficial under such circumstances.
Enjoy the read!
