A leaflet to encourage veterinarians to recognize the symptoms of African swine fever (ASF). It illustrates the symptoms of ASF and lists actions for veterinarians to take should they suspect or confirm ASF on a farm. The objective is to raise awareness
of ASF in an effort to curb the global spread of the disease.
Collaboration prevents AFS
A factsheet that targets policymakers, includes information about ASF and highlights how, with political commitment and collaborative efforts across various sectors, the global control of ASF is possible.

Africa Sustainable Livestock 2050
Laws and flaws, implementation gaps in biosecurity-related legislation in the poultry sector
Evidence from Kenya and Uganda
This brief presents an overview of a survey results in the two countries. The data shows that in both countries, the level of compliance among poultry value chain actors is usually high for practices that have direct implications on birds health and, hence,
profit.
Biosecurity and public health practices along the poultry value chain
Kenya – Evidence from Kiambu and Nairobi City Counties
In order to identify major public health hazards associated with the particularly rapidly expanding poultry value chain(s), FAO, in collaboration with the veterinary service directorates of urban and peri-urban counties of Kiambu and Nairobi, surveyed the poultry
value chain actors to assess their business practices and extent to which they comply with recommended biosecurity and public health practices.
Uganda – Evidence from Mukono and Wakiso districts
In Uganda, to satisfy the rapidly increasing demand of growing urban populations for animal source food (ASFs), livestock holdings and value chains in and around peri-urban and urban areas are transforming more rapidly than elsewhere in the country, exacerbating
the potential negative impacts of livestock keeping on the environment and public health. In order to identify major public health hazards associated with the particularly rapidly expanding poultry value chain(s), we surveyed the poultry value chain actors
in Wakiso and Mukono districts. We assessed their business practices and the extent to which they comply with recommended legislation on biosecurity and public health practices.
