Subject: Twitter account - Voices from Forests & Farms

Dear all,

As discussed this morning in our meeting, here is the Twitter account that David kindly left us and for which I am responsible. I have been starting to tweet on it one year ago and I am tweeting regularly, several times per day, about FFF activities and other programmes to amplify the voice of local partners: https://twitter.com/DavidKaimowitz I have been learning and enjoying it a lot.

This account has considerably increased our visibility at global level. We have reached, thanks to Twitter, a new audience that was not necessarily aware of our activities (researchers, young people, activists, international experts, other indigenous peoples groups, communications experts…), and this has placed us together with other similar programmes. It is strengthening our comms efforts within the FFF partnership with IUCN, IIED and AgriCord.  In addition, it is a very positive window of the FFF for our donors as well. And above all, we are amplifying through Twitter with other programmes the visibility of the local voices.

The number of our followers is one of the most important compared to other NFO senior management accounts. See in the attached email some information about the use of Twitter at FAO Forestry.

I encourage you to get familiar with Twitter and participate in the advocacy efforts. Also at local level, if facilitators are willing to explore the possibilities to increase the awareness about the FFPOs in their countries and to influence the policies at ground level through Twitter, please don’t hesitate to write me.

Cheers,

Marguerite
