The theme for the
World Bee Day 2022:
"Bee Engaged: Celebrating the Diversity of Bees and Beekeeping Systems" draws attention to the crucial role played by bees - and pollinators in general - for a healthy planet.
These hard-working creatures help to promote sustainability and adaptation to climate change and play a major role in maintaining biodiversity, ensuring the survival and reproduction of many plants, supporting forest regeneration and improving the quantity
and quality of agricultural production. Pollinators, such as bees, birds, and bats, in fact contribute to 35 percent of the world's crop production, pollinating 87 of the world's 115 major food crops, as well as to the production of many plant-based medicines.
Yet bees and many other types of pollinators are in decline. The expansion of agricultural fields, habitat reduction, climate change and increased use of agricultural chemicals are having a devastating impact on the survival of pollinators and their precious
activity.
World Bee Day is an opportunity for all of us to promote actions that protect and enhance pollinators and their habitats, improve their abundance and diversity, and support the sustainable development of beekeeping.
In this context, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will celebrate World Bee Day 2022 with a virtual ceremony on 20 May 2022.
The virtual event will start at 13:00 CEST - to follow the event on Zoom please pre-register

food systems.
