Dear colleagues,

As UNFCCC SB56 conference has officially started this week, FAO and Clim-Eat with Colombia University and the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network are pleased to invite you to their event, “Stepping up adaptation action in food systems: Actioning findings from IPCC Working Group II”, on Wednesday 8th of June from 16:45—18:15 CET (Bonn Room).

Background and objective of the event:

For decades, the scientific community has produced evidence of the burden of a changing climate on food production, public health, and natural ecosystems, which was echoed in the IPCC Working Group II latest report on the impacts, adaptation, and vulnerabilities related to climate change.

As the report highlighted the ‘adaptation gap’ in food systems, this event will discuss steps to address this gap and suggest how we might reshape the adaptation agenda to become more action-oriented with a focus on agriculture and food systems, which can result in fewer famines, reduced migration, less conflict, and more stable political conditions.

In preparation for this event, the paper “Climate change impacts and adaptation options in the agrifood system” has been developed to summarize the findings of the International Panel on Climate Change’s Sixth Assessment Report, focusing on the assessment’s conclusions and their effect on agrifood systems.

Looking forward to your online participation!

Best regards

Rebecca Abi Khalil, on behalf of the organizing team
