Dear Partners and Observers,
Following a successful meeting of the e-group on Bioenergy and Nutrition on 12 July 2022, the group decided on two main activities for the remainder of 2022.
The participation of all Partners and Observers is warmly encouraged.
- Dissemination of findings of Literature Review
– dissemination activities will occur to publicize the
Literature Review on linkages between bioenergy and nutrition. The first of these dissemination activities (in addition to the
webinar already held in May), will be the following:
- Presentation at the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition
(Parallel Session 2, 14:10-16:00 CEST, 28 July 2022), with a presentation entitled “Bioenergy, Healthy Soil and Nutrition: an exploration of the links for win-win opportunities”.

More information
- Collection of good practices where positive linkages between bioenergy and nutrition are evidenced. The Literature Review will be enhanced with an Annex that includes more detailed
case studies of the positive links between bioenergy and nutrition. Case studies will help to provide a firmer understanding of the differences between regions and nations, provide examples of linkages identified in the paper, and identify areas that need
expansion or further clarification.
- Partners and Observers are invited to send their case studies to the GBEP Secretariat using the attached template by 10 September 2022. Examples of case studies could include
(although are not limited to) the following themes: energy crops for phytoremediation; integrated production systems for improved soil quality and income diversification; use of by-products of bioenergy production to enhance soil quality; use of bioenergy
in refrigerated transport and storage; and improved health and dietary outcomes from improved cookstoves and clean cooking options.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
GBEP Secretariat
