Dear Mountain Partnership members,

The new Steering Committee (SC) of the Mountain Partnership will be elected for the term 2022-2026 at the forthcoming sixth Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership to be held in Aspen, Colorado on 26-29 September 2022.

We are writing to you to inquire whether your government or organization would be interested in standing as a candidate. As outlined by the Mountain Partnership (MP) governance document, the SC is elected by all MP members to provide programmatic orientation to the MP and serve as a representative body of its members.

Each member of the SC represents a larger group of members and is responsible for providing concrete inputs to the work of the SC, based on a thorough consultation process with the respective constituencies. The SC meets in-person once annually and virtually 2 to 3 times a year, as considered appropriate by the SC members. For more information about the roles and responsibilities of the SC, please refer to the Terms of References (ToRs) on page 16 of the MP governance document.

Nominate your organization as a candidate for the MP SC by completing this form before the deadline set for 26 August 2022 at 5 pm CEST (Rome time). The MPS will then divide the SC nominations by electoral groups and public all received candidacies on the MP website.

At the Mountain Partnership Global Meeting (GM) in Aspen maximum participation in the election will be allowed through: voting in-person for those members attending the GM, designation of a proxy or online voting for those members who cannot attend the GM in person.

Kindly note that the MP Steering Committee has 18 members based on the following electoral groups:

  1. Asia and the Pacific Governments
  2. Asia and the Pacific Major Groups
  3. Central Asia Governments
  4. Central Asia Major Groups
  5. Europe Governments

  14. Sub-Saharan Africa Major Groups
  15. Global Civil Society Organizations
  16. Intergovernmental Organizations

Please utilize the advanced search function (filter by ‘Electoral Group’) available on the MP website to find out which governments or organizations are part of your electoral group.

Please note that the MPS cannot guarantee to be able to cover the expenses linked to your activities as a SC member (such as for in-person meetings). Please also note that this is not a nominal election, but it refers to governments and organizations as Steering Committee member. If you nominate your government or your organization, please consider that you do it on their behalf, not on behalf of yourself, as the candidacy only refers to governments or organizations and not to individuals.

All MP members are strongly encouraged to promote a discussion within their respective electoral group. Should you have any questions or seek further information, please let us know.

Many thanks and kind regards

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
