Dear Mountain Partnership members,
Many thanks to those members who have sent their inputs for the revision of the Advocacy strategy 2022-2025, Communication strategy 2022-2025,
and Governance document 2022-2025, during the period of the open consultation with all MP members (20 January - 15 April 2022).
This is part of the revision process of the MP basic documents by Mountain Partnership Members that takes place every four years ahead
of global meetings. The inputs submitted by members are attached.
Based on the comments received, the three documents have been revised and are also attached to this message. The main changes from the previously
circulated versions are highlighted.
The current versions of the documents are available here:
·
Governance
document 2018-2021
·
Communication
strategy 2018-2021
Please note that one structural change in the Steering Committee composition has been proposed by UNEP and it has been integrated in the Governance
document pending your approval:
|
Appendix 5 |
576 |
Add a new electoral group "Organizations of the UN system"
|
|
2. Steering Committee |
221 |
Increase number by
19 seats |
|
2. Steering Committee |
228 |
Add a new representative group "1 representative of organizations of the UN system (1 member)" |
You may recall that at the previous Global Meeting the composition of the Steering Committee was already modified to introduce “Central Asia”
as an additional geographical area in the electoral groups.
The representative of Switzerland has proposed several important changes to the governance document of the Mountain Partnership, that are available
in the excel file attached along with all the other comments received. Some of these proposals have not been included in the revised governance document version because they imply some fundamental changes that could not be accommodated by simply editing the
document and should be part of the discussions at the Global Meeting.
The Swiss proposed changes that have not been included, refer to:
·
the reformulation of the vision of the MP
·
the preparation of a funding strategy for the MP
·
the process for the nomination and the role of the Coordinator of the MPS
·
the hosting arrangements of the MPS with FAO
·
the ToRs of the Steering Committee and those of the MPS
FAO-related changes proposed by Switzerland are being reviewed by the FAO Legal Office to ensure that they conform with the Organization's procedures and with
the foundational documents of the Mountain Partnership. FAO Legal Office is preparing a paper that will be made available to all MP members before the Global Meeting.
All MP members are kindly invited to send their final feedback, if any, on these highlighted parts, as well as to raise any other major points related to the documents to
be brought to the attention of the Global Meeting.
Please send your feedback in a separate file or in an email message to [log in to unmask] by 25
July 2022.
After 25 July 2022, the three documents along with the feedback received and any other
related documentation, including additional points to be brought to the attention of the GM, will be available to all MP members on the MP website.
The three documents will be discussed and adopted at the MP Global Meeting in Aspen, US on 26-29 September
2022, under the specific agenda item "Adoption of the Mountain Partnership Strategies and Governance document".
We encourage you to take an active part in the revision of the documents in the coming weeks and at the Global Meeting in Aspen.
Many thanks and kind regards.
