(1) Increased use of trees in agriculture can pave the way toward a transformation of the global food system. (2) China's efforts in afforestation and nature conservation have substantially increased carbon storage, mitigating climate change in the first two decades of this century. (3) Europe and many other parts of the world are currently grappling with extreme drought—and that could be bad news for efforts to curb climate change, concludes a new global study of how shrubs and grasses respond to parched conditions. (4) A study develop in the Upper Mississippi River Basin suggested that future climate change can significantly intensify soil erosion and increase sediment deposition. (5) Ugandan soils are increasingly losing fertility. (6) Topsoil data for 18,984 samples from LUCAS 2018 are available as a CSV file.
