The theme of World Food Day 2022 is “Leave NO ONE behind.” Although we have made
progress towards a better world, too many people have been left behind. In fact, millions of people around the world cannot afford a healthy diet, putting them at high risk of food insecurity and malnutrition. Both the availability and access to nutritious
food have been increasingly impeded by multiple challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts, the impact of climate change, inequality and rising prices.
Building on last year’s success, this year the World Food Forum (WFF) flagship event will take place at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy, as well as in virtual form.
WFF comprises the WFF Global Youth Forum,
the FAO
Science and Innovation Forum and
the FAO
Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum. The aim is to foster dialogue and debate among relevant stakeholders, including young people, farmers, small-scale producers, Indigenous
Peoples, policymakers, agri-investors and scientists, who will be tuning in from the four corners of the world with one common goal: to move the needle of food security to achieve a better food future for all, leaving no-one behind.
The events’ highlights include the participation of global leaders, such as the presidents of Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Peru; the prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina Wazed;
Princess Basma Bint Ali of Jordan; as well as celebrities including Grammy Award winning musicians Lonnie Park and Ricky Kej.
The WFF
Global Youth Forum will focus on the theme “Healthy Diets. Healthy Planet.” The aim is to raise awareness among young people and spark action on the connection between climate
change and access to safe and nutritious food and healthy diets.
The Science
and Innovation Forum will highlight the crucial role of science, technology and innovation
in transforming our agrifood systems and explore scientific advances and the opportunities and risks associated with them.
The Hand-in-Hand
Investment Forum will provide a platform for national authorities, global and national public and private entities, along with multilateral development banks and donors,
to discuss opportunities to finance the Hand-in-Hand Initiative.
