Preventing human deaths from rabies should take a One Health approach involving public health, animal health and wildlife sectors. Investment in rabies elimination saves lives and also strengthens both human and veterinary health systems, which generates benefits far beyond rabies and can be sustained to tackle other One Health problems. FAO has been actively supporting its members to tackle rabies-related risk. Working together with WHO, WOAH, and GARC, FAO contributes to the United Against Rabies Forum which convenes global rabies stakeholders to develop and promote technical and strategic tools. FAO also provides ground-basis support to countries in the front line of rabies emergencies, through its ECTAD and EMC programmes. To commemorate World Rabies Day (28 Sep 2022), FAO will organize a webinar with the following objectives: * Share information about FAO’s activities on rabies at global and regional levels, including field and laboratory activities as well as stakeholders engagement * Highlight the Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE) tool and provide examples of how it can help countries to progress on rabies activities * Share countries’ experience on the use of One Health approach to tackle rabies, with close engagement of human and animal health sectors, local government, private sector and civil society partners. -:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:- Agenda Time (Rome, PM) Topic Speaker 12:00-12:05 Welcome speech Keith Sumption, FAO CVO 12:05-12:25 FAO’ s activities on Rabies Junxia Song, CJWZ; Baba Soumare, ECTAD Global 12:25-12:45 Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE) and its application in countries Terence Scott, GARC 12:45-13:00 An overview of the rabies stakeholder meetings in Africa Charles Bebay, ECTAD Eastern Africa 13:00-13:15 Strengthen the veterinary capacity in rabies diagnosis- FAO’s support in Africa Angelique Angot, NSAH 13:15-13:55 Country experience (Indonesia, Mozambique, Peru, Burkina Faso) – addressing rabies through an One Health approach Nuryani Zainuddin, DGLAHS, Indonesia; Zacarias Massicame, Directorate of Livestock Development Mozambique; Ricardo Castillo, University of Pennsylvania, USA; Madi Savadogo, IRSS, Burkina Faso 13:55-14:00 Closing remarks Junxia Song, CJWZ Moderator: Yu Qiu, Animal Health Officer, FAO Rome ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the VPH-L list, click the following link: &*TICKET_URL(VPH-L,SIGNOFF);
